SharePoint Designer Create new EditForm Issues

I have always created new editforms by the following:

Open SPD 2010
Open EditForm.ASPX
Save As EditForm_CUstom.ASPX
Click on WebPart and cut
Insert Edit Item Form, select Custom

Now when I do this I am seeing no connection to the LIST and when I click refresh it flashes real quick and goes away

None of the FIelds are displayed on new editfor, basically blankl
