Sharepoint size of file name

I have been investigating a SharePoint issue for a couple of customers with regards to SharePoint drafts. We found that when a file is added to the SharePoint drafts area the SharePoint file path I also added. When then attempting to save back the path is over 255 characters making an error appear when trying to get checked In.
