SharePoint Server 2007 | Files to be edited by multiple persons

Dear all,

we are using SharePoint Server 2007 from different locations.

Is it possible to store a File (e.g. an Excel or Powerpoint) on the SharePoint Server 2007 that can be edited by more than one person at the same time? Excel / Powerpoint has the option to be unlocked to multiple users.

But does this work on the Sharepoint?
