Hi,
I'm creating XML Web Service Data Source in SPD so that I can create a dataview. The web services that I'm using are those that are available with SharePoint (i.e. Search.asmx, UserProfileService.asmx, etc.), not any custom made web services or from any other platforms.
When I create the data source and click on "Show Data", I get the error "The server returned non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source..."
After a lot of troubleshooting, it seems that the SharePoint Designer can only retrieve data/use the data source, if I have the login option set to enter a specific username/password (in this case, I entered my own LAN id and password). I had it set to use"Windows Authentication" and SPD can't seem to use this option to retrieve data/use the data source that was created.
Have you come across something similar? I think the problem is with SharePoint Designer only, because when I used the "SharePoint Search Service Tool" (available in codeplex) to connect to the "Search.asmx" web service, it was able to connect and retrieve the data.
I've been searching online on this issue, but haven't found anything relevant yet. Would you be able to advise?
