SharePoint 2007 - Workflow Cancelled by System Account - Failed to Start

Hi,

Whilst using MOSS 2007 I have begun encountering errors in my workflow logs stating the following:

26/07/2012 11:47 AM	Error	System Account	Workflow failed to start.
26/07/2012 11:47 AM	Workflow Canceled	System Account	Workflow Workflow was canceled by System Account.

I have dragged myself through dozens of forums with similar problems in MOSS 2010 but the solutions are specifically for MOSS 2010.

I have little knowledge in this area and would greatly appreciate a little low level guidance on the matter on why it is occuring and how I go about correcting it.
